Team Nike Air Force 1 (We Are NY)

It’s not really my cup of tea, but I just had to put this up as it has “We Are” on the heel. Don’t get hyped, as they won’t be released in the UK and will only be made available in New York, as a 72 pair limited run equipped with Starks laces.

24 pairs are to be sold at the ‘Nike Ice Cream Truck‘ and the remaining 48 will be at Nike Basketball’s BLVD ICE in Harlem.

Who knows, one day we may just have ‘We Are’ sneaker of our own.

Kidult Hits Supreme NY (Battle Against The Brands)

Once again graffiti artist Kidult astonishes me with his battle against the brands, his most recent hit on the 23rd was against super subculture skate brand Supreme.

Hitting them with a complete top to bottom storefront only months after hitting Agnes B and JCDC in Paris.

Word is, whos next?

A little random of a post… but it was a thought that came to my mind about the sneaker/trainer culture that is in the UK/Europe. Watching this video of how New York rappers, in this case, Jim Jones can go in to Flight Club NY and just have the most amazing selection of shoes and people are buying without hesitation at whatever price they are, while in the UK we have Size?, Offspring and Niketown (no offense!) 5 years ago when indy stores were allowed to open and sell rare and collectable things, the vibe was awesome, but nothing like the US.

There has never been a time when that following or craze was ever in the UK that I ever remember. Jordans are still on the shelves 3-4 weeks after they are released… True Blue 3s were still available 1 YEAR later in the UK…

The problem is that we dont have same scale of people that have the love for trainers as they do in the US.

Although Jimmy really dont really know what he is talking about…. he loves shoes and he understands shoes (to an extent). Just look at the selection through the video to see what type of choice they have in the US. Do you think that would make a difference if we had that here?? or is that just a waste of money to open up?

Supreme x Playboy

This Spring, Supreme will release a line in collaboration with Playboy.

Playboy, the American men’s magazine was founded by Hugh Hefner and his associates in 1953. The brand later became a global enterprise connoting the high life for men.

The Playboy bunny, one of the most iconic and timeless symbols of our decade has been appropriated by pop and youth culture, most significantly during the early heydays of hip-hop culture in New York City in the late 1970’s and early 80’s.

Zoo York, the New York based clothing company, have released their new Spring 2011 collection. It sticks to it’s roots as it is heavily influenced by the skateboarding culture and this is apparent throughout the lookbook.

Asobi Seksu – Trails Music Video

New York indie shoegazing band Asobi Seksu debut the video to the lead single Trails off there 4th studio album Fluorescence. The song goes back more to the signature sound that the band is known for but still bringing something new to the mix. The video has a winter feel to it and incorporates some extreme slow motion in parts.

The album is available in stores now on CD, LP, Ltd Edition Pink LP and Digital Download.

WeAreArt: George Condo – “Mental States” Exhibition

Coorganized with the Hayward Gallery in London, the New Museum will present the first conceptual survey of twenty five years of work by the American artist George Condo. Concentrating on painting, but including sculpture as well, the exhibition will offer a comprehensive survey of acareer that has been innovative in his assimilation and appropriation of elements of the greatest Western artists of the past five hundred years- from Velasquez to Picasso to Arshile Gorky. Condo’s has been mostprolific as a portraitist, but one who has devised a wholly unique way to interpret this genre. Beginning in the mid nineteen eighties, he developed the idea of “artificial realism” an idea that spawned a race of entirely imagined entities. Conventionally, a portrait depicts a individual who exists, or once existed. Condo’s portraits do not. Painted with a highly detailed naturalism that gives old masterish attention to every detail of figure, costume and attribute, Condo’s portraits remain recognizable as types; butlers, businessmen, saints or cleaning ladies, despite their often fantastic, or humorously grotesque features.

Condo’s work has been deeply influential to two generations of figurative painters in the U.S. and in Europe, both because of the artist’s astonishing technical ability, stylistic versatility and imaginative subject matter, and after the first blossoming of his careerin New York and Paris in the nineteen eighties, his work again, became the focus of intense interest at the beginning of the new century. Condo’s production is famously prodigious, and this tightly edited collection of works dating from 1982 to now, will be presented in thematic sections or chapters developed in close collaboration with the artist. A dramatic installation of a collection of more than fifty portraits in myriad styles, sizes, and types will be the centerpiece of the exhibition, which will be accompanied by a catalog featuring essays by Ralph Rugoff, Director of the Hayward Gallery, Laura Hoptman, former Kraus Family Senior Curator at the New Museum as well as the fiction writers Will Self and David Means. After its presentation at the New Museum, the exhibition will travel to Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, Rotterdam (June 4–September 25, 2011); Hayward Gallery, London (October 18, 2011–January 15, 2012); and Schirn Kunsthalle, Frankfurt (February 23–May 28, 2012).

George’s work is also featured in Kanye West’s album artwork of My Dark Twisted Fantasy.

Ralph Lauren in 4D

On Wednesday, Ralph Lauren created a spectacular 4D outdoor lights show, closing down blocks in London and New York in order to celebrate a decade of RalphLauren.com. This spectacle involved an after dark projection which uses the flagship stores as a canvas in order to create the illusion that they’re being ripped apart and destroyed.

Working together with the tech team behind Harry Potter, the mastermind behind the creative project, David Lauren, wanted to create “a spectacle that seamlessly brings together fashion, architecture, music and fragrance.” Lauren states that “This is not just a game changer, it’s a life changer. It’s fashion changing film, architecture, technology. It’s an entire building turning into a stage set.”
