You may or may not know that Nate Dogg had two massive strokes, first in 2007 and another in 2008, however it is unknown at this point whether this contributed to his untimely death. Tributes poured in from his all star cast of collaborators Luda, The Game, Eminem, 50, Snoop, Daz, Xzibit, Erykah Badu, Dave Chappelle, Mark Ronson the list goes on endlessly.

Nate Dogg was born in Long Beach, California. He grew up with the likes of Snoop Dogg, Warren G, RBX, Daz Dillinger and was the cousin of Butch Cassidy. As the son of a Pastor he began singing as a child in Church. At the age of 16 he dropped out of high school and left home to join the United States Marine Corps, serving for three years.

Nate, Snoop Dogg and Warren G, all belonged to the hardcore Crip Gang ‘The Rollin 20 Crips’. Together they formed the famed rap trio 213, which recorded its first demo in the back of the infamous V.I.P record store in Long Beach. The demo was later heard by Dr. Dre at a house party, who was impressed with Nate’s soulful voice.

Nate Dogg made his début on The Chronic. Singing the hook on the classic ‘Regulate’ with Warren G in what later became his trademark G-Funk style. He later signed to Death Row Records in 1993. The rest is history! For me the voice is synonymous with the G-Funk of my youth, put Nate on a hook and you where almost guaranteed a hit.

To one of the most prolific voices to ever bless the mic in Hip Hop and R&B

WeSalute you Nate Dogg – Rest In Peace G

<a
