We were recently invited to Showcase Live’s 5th Anniversary, to be introduced to the sounds of Elsie. Showcase Live aims to bring carefully selected unsigned and rising artists from around the UK to the attention of the music industry. Their alumni includes the likes of pop artists Lawson, JLS and Jessie J. A native of Liverpool, Elsie has relocated to London, blessing audiences with a signature sassy, and engaging attitude.
Having been compared to Gwen Stefani by many, we were curious to see what she was about. Of the acts to take to the stage, we were thoroughly impressed with her stage presence, crowd interaction, and the original sound. Elsie’s raspy vocals were definitely heeded and admired by the packed venue, which also had Pixie Lott in attendance.
Performing her Jimmy Lowe produced ‘Assassin (Bang Bang)’, as well as ‘Dangerous Dog’, ‘Time To Go’, and her ode to London aptly named ‘London Town’, we were certainly impressed with her musical talent. Elsie makes music for people who like to drink, dance and hear about real life over riff-heavy, Blondie-inspired tracks played by her band. In her own words, “I’m doing songs for people who listen to Rihanna or Lady GaGa, but love a bit of Kasabian or Arctic Monkeys too”
Look out for more Elsie releases in the future. In the mean time, check out the images from the night and her video for ‘The Assassin (Bang Bang)’.
