As the countdown’s on for London to host this year’s summer Olympic Games, the official sponsors adidas have got a treat install for it. Having already released Team GB capsule last year, adidas have dug into their archive to bring forward more Team GB goodness, reissuing various original pieces. It’s inspired by the Team GB kit worn at the Los Angeles 1984 Olympic Games, when adidas sponsored the team for the very first time. Ever since then, the two have celebrated a prestigious partnership and the rest they say is history.
As athletes Daley Thompson, Sebastian Coe and Tessa Sanderson all took Olympic gold for Great Britain in ‘84, hopefully this collection can inspire the current crop of athletes to do the same. The collection features the all important iconic red, white and blue taping detail on every piece of apparel, detailed with distressed iconic Originals Trefoil logo and the Team GB flag, A perfect official stamp of Team GB authenticity.
Apparel consists of the classic #398 tee that’s slightly reworked from the jersey Daley Thompson wore in LA ‘84, and it holds its place as the hero piece of the collection, complete with Great Britain insignia and multi stripe execution. Other pieces include two timeless double-knit Firebird track tops and a shell variation, plus a lightweight panelled pullover windbreaker.
To round off the collection are three indoor trainers. A dark indigo two-tone suede Gazelle Indoor complete with white three stripe taping and scarlet inner, and a tasty gum sole; a Tobacco in airforce blue; and a white Handball 5 Plug with its point plug midsole system in Team GB colours.
The Olympic Games prove to be a great reason to bring this capsule out, resulting with a very tidy release across every single item. It’s available now from adidas.
