“What the….” and “who the…” were the first thoughts that came in to my head after watching this ‘short film’. I use quotes as this music video is so epic I don’t know what else to call it. The artist is Macklemore; yeah, I hadn’t heard of him either. He’s a Seattle-based artist who’s written a song called ‘Wings’ and it’s produced by Ryan Lewis. The tune speaks about Macklemore as a child growing up wanting to have the latest Air Jordans and that having them would make him cool, accepted and even a better basketball player. It’s a quite sad story as the young boy goes through life wanting to fit in with his peers with lyrics like “They told me to Just Do It, and I listened to what that Swoosh said…” while scrubbing his shoes with a toothbrush.
The video itself is directed by Zia Mohajerjasbi, and by no means on a small budget. The attention to detail is what really counts in this. The original Air Jordan IV and V, with Nike Air on the back, are what really caught my attention and did so until the very end of the video.
Watch for yourself and enjoy. It would be great to know your thoughts on it, so feel free to leave a comment below.
You can go to his website, Love & Shoestrings, where you can check out the behind-the-scenes for the video. For any film-makers, you will love it.
