Last month WeAre HQ’s very own Coach was sent to New York for a very special press conference by Nike to announce the World Basketball Festival set to take place on the 12th-15th August.
The World Basketball Festival (WBF) consisting of three of the biggest brands committed to basketball Jordan, Nike and Converse will be hosting a four day event celebrating the culture and performance of basketball in its home nation and playground of New York.
The event will see four teams including the USA, France, Puerto Rico and China compete at the infamous Madison Garden ahead of this years Fiba Championships however, the basketball action is not just limited to there and Nike will be building a full sized custom court in the middle of Times Square as well as playing on the legendary Uptown court that is Rucker Park.
Although the event doesn’t kick off until next month there has been a series of workshop events entitled Make Something led by the three brands to connect kids with the product and designers. Running from July 12th – August 15th children aged from 12-18 have the opportunity to design and customize a range of Nike products such a Destroyer Varsity Jacket, Nike basketball and game apparel as well as music workshops where celebrity musicians will interact with kids.
