The British Library will be showcasing 50 Years of The Beatles, by holding a conference with Philip Norman (one of their biographers), and music writer Paul Du Noyer.

On 16 August 1960 The Beatles set off from Liverpool for a residency in Hamburg, having just settled upon the band name that would become the best known in history.

With the music and influence of the group still as powerful as ever and with some of their lyrics and memorabilia on permanent display at the British Library, The Beatles’ achievement is considered by one of their definitive biographers, Philip Norman (Shout!: The Beatles in Their Generation, 1981 and John Lennon: The Life, 2008).

He talks to music writer Paul Du Noyer (In The City: A Celebration of London Music, Liverpool: Wondrous Place); both select some of the songs that epitomise the greatness of the band.

The event is on Monday 16th August, between 6.30pm – 8.30pm, at The British Library’s Conference Centre. Tickets are £7.50 (£5 concessions, and can be booked here.
