Last friday the 26th of February saw the launch of Buffet, the first bi-annual trade event and public expo of it’s kind in the Asia-Pacific dedicated to streetwear, contemporary style, culture, design and accessories and run over three days show casing the latest in Australian and international streetwear labels. It incorporates an industry Tradeshow, Public Expo, Marketplace and Discussion forums as well as a launch party and other side events.
The creative brains behind the whole concept and vision was none other than Australia’s premier Streetwear and Street Lifestyle publication ACCLAIM Magazine.
Speaking on the Buffet concept, event creative director Andrew Montell says “Buffet fills a very large void in the Streetwear industry in our region. Despite significant development internationally, the general population, fashion media and the fashion industry remains mostly ignorant to the modern face of Streetwear and the relationship that it holds with other progressive areas of lifestyle and culture. Buffet has been designed to build awareness and to provide one hub for the purpose of networking, trading and overall development of the industry, not to mention a bit of partying on the side.”
“It’s been great to see so much support and enthusiasm towards this event from the streetwear industry, especially given the understandable level of scepticism early on. Many of the labels and distributors who are leading the way in our industry are now on board with Buffet and we have a great group of media partners supporting the event. In particular T-World has been very active in the development of the event and the involvement of internationally renowned media partners Sneaker Freaker, Design Is Kinky and Formatmag.com speaks volumes.”

Four discussion forums took place over the three days, each covering a different area of relevance to the streetwear/fashion industry in order to stimulate growth in the local industry as well as to enhance the design community’s perception of where this progressive genre of fashion is placed today. The forums are a must see if you’re an aspiring entrepreneur, working in the fashion business with an eye towards expansion or wishing to enter the contemporary fashion retail market.
There was a great vibe going on at the festivities with guest DJ’s spinning throughout the event along with a bar for all those who enjoy a good drink.
So kids, the first Buffet was a hit with much antisipation for what will be in the mix for the next edition.
Stay tuned until next time, but for now, feel free to check out the superb standard of talent from this years line up of brands on the Exhibitor Profiles.
