AWang_102308.JPGIt takes true talent to stand out from the crowd, especially in the fashion industry. With so many competitors all aiming for the number one spot with that mission to have their clothes draped over the glamorous bodies of A-list celebrities. Alexander Wang has accomplished just that. All before his 26th birthday.

After only 15 years of living in San Francisco where he was born and raised by an American Chinese family, he decided to travel to London where he spent the summer attending a fashion design course at Central Saint Martins. A few years later he moved to New York and enrolled at the prestigious Parson’s College at age 18, and enjoyed internships with Marc Jacobs2 and Derek Lam. Before he had finished his course, he had already completed his first retail collection. By his second year he had already created his own label.

In 2008 Alex received top honours as the recipient of the Vogue CFDA Fund (Council of Fashion Designers of America), and earlier this year he was the winner of the CFDA Swarovski Women’s Wear Designer of the year.

Wang’s look is very Lower East Side Manhattan, filled with contrast and individuality with underlying classic American sportswear pieces. T by Alexander Wang is also an expansion of his range, which includes a collection of T-shirts and T-shirt dresses featuring his trademark slouchy, worn-in aesthetic.

He has a large celebrity following with his grungy cool clothes being worn by the likes of Chloe Sevigny, Kirsten Dunst, Kate Moss and Daisy Lowe.

Despite his high profile, his personal life has still remained the same, eating take away and hanging out with the same friends from college.

Alexander Wang is undoubtedly the next big thing in fashion. So who knows, he could one day be an icon in his own right, alongside the likes of Jean Paul Gaultier or Yves Saint Laurent.
